Cambodian PM Asks Japanese Counterpart to Help Laos

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to consider helping Laos as it battles Covid-19 and economic problems. Prime Minister Hun Sen has made the request during his virtual meeting with his Japanese counterpart on Wednesday.

Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh recently had a two-day visit in the Kingdom of Cambodia in response to the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He arrived in Cambodia on Monday paying courtesy visits to senior government leaders and King Norodom Sihamoni. Apart from Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Lao Prime Minister also visited the Senate President Say Chhum and the Natioal President Heng Samrin.

The Royal Government of Cambodia through Prime Minister Hun Sen has donated half-million doses of Sinovac vaccine, two vaccine trucks and a $13 million aid to Laos. The turn-over ceremony for the trucks and vaccine will be conducted on Friday which will be led by the Minister of Health Mam Bunheng.

Then on Wednesday, as the Cambodian Prime Minister met with the Japanese Prime Minister, Prime Minister Hun Sen asked Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to consider the situation in Lao in helping countries, especially this time of pandemic.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also asked the Japanese Prime Minister to resume flights between Cambodia and Japan as the kingdom already fully reopened. On the side of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, he has reassured that Japan will cooperate and support Cambodia, especially during its ASEAN Chairmanship which will commence next year.
